If you thought the first two series of NECA's Gears of War figures were good, wait till you see these badass figures.

First off we have a new Marcus vs Loctus double pack which is truly hardcore.

Taken from a scene of actual gameplay this double pack re-creates Marcus Fenix chainsawing his way through a Loctus Drone, complete with all the gore!

This must be one of the best and goriest double packs I have ever seen and NECA have truly brought this scene to live in full technicolor gore.

Series three also introduces a new 12-inch version of Marcus with light up armor that with the flich of a switch will glow blue as it does in the game, he also come with a COG pistol and Lancer.

With a completely redesigned head sculpt to reflect his apperance in Gears of War 2.

Series three also re-introduces NECA's new 3.7-inch figures with an all new Gears of War 2 Marcus Fenix figure sculpt, a new COG soldier, not one but two Loctus Drones and a new Theron Palace Guard.

Each of these figures are capable of carrying an extra weapon pegged to their back, except the Theron Guard.

The new 3.7-inch format allows NECA to expand on the figures available without a loss of quality or detail and providing a more compact and affordable collectible for fans and collectors.

Only a few of the Theron Guards are chosen to guard the Locust Queen. With their bulkier armor and even worse temper they are a formidable opponent, especially when mounted on their Bloodmounts.

The Palace guards have but one concern or job and that is to guard the Palace and the Locust Queen to the death. Much like their counterparts their preferred weapon is the Torque Bow although they will often carry a mrriad of weapons into battle.

One of the unusual aspects of their armor is that its shape purposely obscures the location of their head thus making it an almost impossible task for snipers to take a head shot.

The Palace Guards are also amongst the only locust who are capable of switching weapons.

The Theron Palace Guard is a new figure that protects the Queen's palace. He is incredibly detailed and comes with the deadly Torquebow weapon.

This is to be NECA's last Marcus Fenix figure and here he is featured in a new head sculpt, additional elbow articulation, snub pistol, an improved Lancer and the ability to peg an extra weapon to the figure's back.

*Also be on the lookout for a special CHASE version of Marcus, with a Gold Lancer!

Two new versions of the Locust Drones round out the set including the Locust Cyclops with articulated mask and the Locust Grappler. Both Locusts come with all new weapons including the Gorgon pistol, the Hammerburst 2.0, and a Grenade. The Locusts also now have the ability to peg an extra weapon to the figure's back.

What is a Cyclops?

The Cyclops is a new variant of the standard drone first introduced in Gears of War 2.

The Cyclops are distinguishable by their trademark one-eye helmet and their preference to the Lancer Assault Rifle as opposed to the Hammerburst, although they will at times use a Hammerburst as well.

The Cyclops is a far more dangerous being than their drone counterparts, mainl because of the lancer's high rate of fire and the threat the chainsaw bayonet poses at a close range.

What's the best way to deal with a Cyclops?

Why a Gnasher of course, because of its brutal stopping power and high damage per shot.

But if you encounter more than one?

My best advise would be to fall back and try to pick them of one at a time.

The Grappler is the Hordes shock trooper, used generally in boarding actions such as during the Assault on Landown and the Siege of Jacinto.

The Grappler is reconizable from normal Drones by their unique helmet which is be used to help the Hammerhead adjust to the rapid change in light since they left their homes in the Hollow for that of the surface.

The Grappler, like a Drone, is very easy to kill and are not a very high priority target.

One round from the Longshot is sufficient if it's a headshot, two otherwise but Of course there's always the Chainsaw Bayonet if you're looking for a little more "fun".

The COG soldier is the grunt in the war against the Horde army.

Long before the Pendulum Wars, the Coalition of Ordered Governments existed only as an obscure world-government philosophy, created by fanatical socialist Alexiy Desipich and based on eight guiding principle values: Order, Diligence, Purity, Labor, Honor, Loyalty, Faith, and Humanity.

But during the 79-year long Pendulum Wars, this philosophy and its guiding principles grew into a legitimate, though minor, political party.

Then came the Pendulum Wars after the discovery of Imulsion, a substance exploited and sought after for its energy applications.Mans greed yet again got the better of him as Nations with little Imulsion available waged war with those that had a surplus of it.

But this long and bitter war came to an abrupt end on "Emergence Day," when the Locust Horde began their attack.

The COG leaders were the only ones able to take the steps required to help humanity to survive by instituting martial law and taking charge of the effort against the Locust.

Fourteen years later, the COG is the only form of government left and the COG soldiers humanity's last defense, on Sera the world where Gears of War takes place.

The COG Soldier sports a brand new helmet, additional elbow articulation, Longshot and Lancer weapons and the ability to peg an extra weapon to the figure's back.

After the series 2 Locust Head Shot figure I thought we had seen the best of NECA's work but the The Marcus vs Drone double pack surpasses that.

This excellent and gruesomely real scene re-creates one of the most memorable and satisfying moments in Gears of War gameplay.

Featuring the new version of heroic Marcus chainsawing his way through an enemy Locust torso this double pack is highly detailed and faithfully sculpted to re-create the Lancer sawing into the enemy as blood & guts fill the air, certainly not for those without a strong stomach.
