 NECA Gears of War Figures Series 1 Now Available!NECA Gears of War Figures Series 1 is of what promises to be an excellent line of action figures based on the Epic Games blockbuster. The game is a third person shoot 'em up that thrusts you into humankinds fight for survival against the monstrous Locust Horde who are bent on mankinds destruction. The Locust Horde are a nightmarish breed of creatures who live live in the bowels of the planet Sera. The story begins on the historic Emergence Day when the ragtag group of the Delta squadron are forced to use every last ounce of their energy and ability against the Horde's onslaught to survive.

Gears of War Figures Series 1 Review NECA have, it seems excelled themselves with their new line of action figures and have certainly hit a chord with the mass of Gears of War fans. The craftsmanship in these is incredible and is some of NECA's best work to date delivering some of the finest figures ever released. Each Gears of War Figures is about 7 inches in height and comes in a well designed, colourful clamshell packaging that has been talor made to each character. The Gears of War Figures are very robust and is made from a tough, high grade plastic that even the wildest child would find it difficult to destroy. The packaging includes some excellent artwork with each pack featuring a game portrait on the front and some excellent in-game figure photography on the back. The in depth and well-written player background gives the figures an added depth especially for those who haven't played the game. Neca have excelled themselves with the sculpt work on these Gears of War Figures with some of the richest character designs I have seen. The Locust figures are particularly good with their elaborate battle armor and mix of textures and materials represented. What adds to the complexity of the sculpting on these is that many of the smaller parts, such as the Locust's shoulder armor, holsters and field gear, have been sculpted separately. Marcus Fenix is featured in full armor with his shoulder, thigh and groin plates, whereas Cole Train wears a more casual outfit with only the basics. The detail on these Gears of War Figures is outstanding and really has to be seen to be believed, right down to the nuts and bolts on the armor. Often figure companies excel in getting the design and sculpt right, with great designs and intricate detail only to let themselves down with sloppy, messy and unprofessional paintwork. But I'm pleased to report that is not the case here. NECA have managed to capture the look and feel of the characters precisely with excellent weathering effects, scars, and general signs of wear and tear on their armour. It is these extra details that truly make this line unique and outstanding. Even the flesh tones, which are one of the hardest to get right, are very lifelike. One of the biggest problems figure manufacturers face with mass produced figures on this scale is overlapping on the paintwork, a lack of detail on the facial features and generally sloppiness. These Gears of War Figures however bear none of these traits and on the contrary include some nice features and detail such as Fenix's scar and Cole's ear studs. Another example of the detail and care taken with these are the small prints on their armor and weapons including clean and neat insignia, tight warning arrows and the gear and skull symbol even down to the GoW symbol and bullet strikes, on the ammo clips. The most disappointing thing about these Gears of War Figures is the articulation. The articulation is well placed and hidden but the joints in their arms make certain poses, particularly with their weapons, difficult. Marcus Fenix's elbow is locked at a righ-angle making some poses impossible or very difficult. Also The Locust figures don't have any articulation on their right elbow and it is permanently stuck in a bend and their left limb features a cut elbow and swivel upper arm. Despite this there are numerous excellent poses that can be achieved with these figures and the problem with the articulation is only a minor fault which I'm pleased to report has been greatly improved with the series 2 figures.. The weaponry that each of these figures comes with is very cool and true to the game also and is sure to please diehard fans. Marcus and Cole both have the standard COG issue Snub Pistol and Lancer assault rifle. The Lancer sports excellent detail and features a swing-out handle on the side for added posing options. The Locust Hammerburst rifle is another well made weapon that has been excellently sculpted and painted and features a large trigger to allows the figure a solid grip. The Locust also comes with a Boltok Pistol that can be either holstered or held with and of course there is the Locust Sniper's Longshot rifle. The Locust Horde are a mass of various species that remained hidden in the subterranean regions of Sera until Emergence Day when they emerged from their underground catacombs in a massive and overwhelming attack against the human populace on the planets surface. The Hollow is the Locust Hordes massive network of tunnels that honeycomb the crust of the planet. In Gears of War 1 it seems that The Locust's only known objective is the complete and total annihilation of the human population of Sera but later in Gears of War 2 it is discovered that…
During the Pendulum Wars Marcus Fenix became a noted war hero with an outstanding military areer, until the monstrous Lotus Horde emerged from the bowls of hell. In an attempt to save his father from the Lotus Hordes onslaught Marcus Fenix abandons his military post and is sentenced to 40 years after a court martial. Despite his past service he is left for dead in a dilapidated penitentiary, until his long time friend and comrade Dominic "Dom" Santiago, rescues him in the first act of Gears of War. Because of his previous combat experience and the threat to humanity poised by the Lotus Horde he is immediately reinstated into and is assigned to serve with Delta Squad. When his squad commander Kim is killed by General RAAM he promoted to sergeant and becomes commander. Figure Stats
Augustus Cole, a former professional Thrashball player and other characters in the game for his previous career, he is also known as "the Cole Train" and is an adrenaline junkie who craves action. He may lack finesse but he more than makes up for it in raw, unadulterated energy and power. He has a vibrant, if often outspoken character which usually gets him into trouble. Figure Stats

The Locust Drone is the grunt of the Locust swarms army. Merciless foot soldiers who are intent on the destruction of humanity. Unquestioningly loyal to the Locust Queen this foot soldier will tear apart any human in its way, especially members of the Delta Squadron. Figure Stats
The Locust Sniper is feared by human and Locust alike. The Locust Sniper is highly specialized in their job and attack unseen in the darkness demoralizing the enemy. Equipped with accuracy enhancing goggles the Locust Sniper is known to play with his prey from afar before closing in for the kill. Figure Stas
