What Are The Gears of War Locust Horde?

What Are The Gears of War Locust Horde?

A Human Scientist dubbing the name of The Locust Horde:

"Frankly, other than the fact that they want to kill every man, woman and child out there, we know nothing about them. We've tagged them Locusts since this degree of death has only been seen in times of plague. They're subterranean in nature. That's obvious. Aside from that, I'm afraid..."

The Locust Horde

The Locust Horde has decided that its secondary goal is the extermination of the human race down to every man, woman, and child. The Locust Horde's primary goal is to populate the surface of Sera. The Locust wage a tactically beneficial war of genocide against the Humans due to the existence of a civil war between the Locust Horde and the "Lambent Locust." The Locust consist of a common race of drones and all manner of other animals that are indigenous to the underground tunnels known as the Hollow, which is a short term used to describe the hollow portions of planet Sera which is mainly controlled by the Locust Horde. Under Mount Kadar is the Locust capital Nexus.

The origins of the Locust are a mystery, although they existed long before the Pendulum WarsThere is an unknown link between the Locust regarding New Hope, in particular regarding Mount Kadar. Other alternate theories are suggested by the remaining human population. The Locust Horde was a Matriarch based Monarchy that was divided into classes. While the lower class of the Horde (Drones,Boomers) are willing to die for the Queen.

The Gears of War Locust Horde Hierarchy

Queen Myrrah

The Locust Horde is a Matriarchal society with the Queen at the top, and is dived into several classes. She is never present on the battlefield but leads The Horde with her ruthlessness and deals unforgivably and mercilessly against any threats to her horde, whether from within or outside.

Drones

The Drones appear to be the most common race among the Locust Horde with several different classes. The Drones are the foot soldiers of the Locust Horde and ordered will not hesitate to throw their lives away by the hundreds to kill one COG soldier.

Drones often crawl out of "emergence holes," which they use as bridges between the "Hollow", the underground tunnels, and the surface world.

The most basic drones wear a helmet and body armor while Grenadiers mainly go into battle armorless except for shoulder plates.

Gears of War Locust Drone classes:

  • Cyclops
  • Grenadier
  • Grenadier Elite
  • Flame Grenadier
  • Sniper
  • Spotter
  • Gunner
  • Bolter
  • Beast Rider
  • Grappler
  • Savage Grenadier

Gears of War Locust Theron Guards

The Theron Guards are very easily distinguished from the Drones mainly because of their long leather-like cloaks, metallic masks and ornate crimson armour which is considerably more protective than that worn by the Drones.

One of their most effective weapons however is their voice which has been known to scare COGS into fleeing and is often undistinguishable from the wind.

The Theron Guards are a far superior race to the Drones as they are stronger, faster and far more intelligent. Their preferred weapon is the Torque Bows.

There are two classes of Gears of War Locust Theron Guards, each with minor differences:

  • Theron Sentinels
  • Palace Guard

Gears of War Locust Boomers

The Boomers rely mainly on their physical presence in battle due to their huge size and lack of intelligence and military tactics. Boomers usually partner other Boomers in battle and general use the 'Boomshot' grenade launcher.

Their main tactic is to advance on their enemy slowly while firing their 'Boomshot', while laughing and shouting "BOOM!", which generally unnerves their foe.

The one of the best tactics to use against Boomers is to stay hidden behind cover and using automatic fire to bring them down.

There are several classes, or variants of the standard Gears of War Locust Boomer:

  • Butcher
  • Flame Boomer
  • Grinder
  • Mauler
  • Digger Boomer

Gears of War Locust Wretches

Wretches tend to fight in packs which is when they are at their deadliest. They are small, jittery creatures and are weak and easily killed on their own. The Wretches make up for their lack of strength with their speed and unpredictability and generally attack by scrambling over surfaces on mass I a viscous frenzy. This makes them ideal cannon fodder for the Locust Horde. They also have a very high pitched scream, which is often heard before they are seen, that can make COGS hold their ears in pain.

Gears of War Locust Kantus

Standing almost 7 feet in height the Kantus are the priests of the Locust Horde, with their high priest being Skorge. Their chanting is a form of communication and is used to direct attacks and revive Locust soldiers.

The Kantus Priests are very agile and are usually armed with are a Gorgon Burst Pistol and Ink Grenades.

Gears of War Locust Berserkers

The Berserkers are a much feared race of the Locust Horde, and for good reason as they have been known to kill other Locust Drones just for getting too close. These vicious and bloodthirsty creatures are monstrous female Locust who are blind, and rely solely on smell and sound.

They have great physical strength and are capable of ripping a human limb from limb, barely pausing for breath, and when they have enough momentum they can smash through a solid stone wall.

About the only way to defeat this hellish creature is to blast it with the Hammer of Dawn, which weakens its hide allowing you to shoot it but once its hide cools and re-hardens it again becomes almost indestructible.
