The Halo movie was to be written by Alex Garland but currently D.B. Weiss is set to re-write it using elements of the Garland original.

After complications with the distributors, problems with finding a director and onset with financial problems in October 2006 both Microsoft and Peter Jackson agreed to postpone the project.

However, since then it has been announced that Neill Blomkamp will be the director and the Halo Movie is scheduled to be released in 2009.

The Latest News on this project?

Why isn't there a Halo movie already? Because Microsoft won't let the movie studios take the merchandising rights, and without that safety net, nobody wants to bankroll such a risky picture.

It's being reported that Steven Spielberg, yes THE man behind Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones and Transformers etc, may be taking up the Halo movie, since Peter Jackson dropped the project.

Don't get your hopes up to much tho' because there's no conclusive proof and the rumor sources are...

Apparently Spielberg was blown away by writer Stuart Beattie's take on the game in his script entitled HALO THE FALL OF REACH.

This along with the fact that his Dreamworks is looking for a big movie to help launch their newly independant studio with distribution over at Walt Disney Pictures after losing Transformers to Paramount in the separation, it's may just be the perfect combination.

However does anyone still want to see the film version of Master Chief?

Sure Halo: Reach was an enormous hit, but it still seems like this is one idea whose day has passed.

Halo Movie Synopsis

After the Battle of Reach Captain Jacob Keyes and his crew escape aboard a Halcyon-class battle-cruiser called the Pillar of Autumn.

However in an uncharted part of the Universe they discover a mysterious ring but before they have a chance to investigate they are attacked by a Covenant ship that has followed them.

After a fight they are forced to abandon ship and Keyes orders Master Chief John: Spartan 117 to be awakened from cryo-sleep. John is the last of genetically enhanced super human soldiers known as Spartans.

But after a noble fight he to is forced to abandon ship, taking Cortana the ships AI and the heart of the Pillar of Autumn with him. And so the Master Chief's quest begins, a quest that will soon reveal many of the rings secrets, some of which would be best left forgotten.
