Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark was the beginning of George Lucas's second big movie franchise after the great success of Star Wars.
George Lucas came to fame with the production of his beloved Star Wars saga giving birth to his own LucasFilms Limited.
Star Wars remained the backbone for all of George Lucas's business successes, and even up to this day and the Star Wars mania still runs deep among die-hard fans.
The original Star Wars trilogy was Lucas's biggest commercial success and was his masterpiece. Due to its unique galactic war theme which was presented in such an epic way that it generated a cult like following and set its own global trend and culture, influencing both the television and film industries for all time.
Lucas became one of the most influential film-makers in the industry as his genius as a producer, director, and story writer were unleashed with far reaching and revolutionary effects on modern day trends and culture, now referred to as Pop-Culture.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark movie was the first Indiana Jones movie, released in 1981.
An extra-ordinary fantasy adventure with its own iconic hero and a trademark background music, Indiana Jones was created by the creative genius of both Spielberg and Lucas, with Harrison Ford playing the naughty, cocky and boastful character of Indiana Jones.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark was a huge success and the top grossing movie of its year as well as being nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning four of them which including "Best Film Editing", "Best Art Direction", "Best Sound" and "Best Visual Effects". The film features an archeologist known as Indian Jones or simply Dr. Jones who happens to be a great adventurer who goes on quests for rare artifacts
Whether willingly or not Harrison Ford became George Lucas's regular boy back then for as well as being cast for his Star Wars trilogy he starred in American Graffiti, created along with Francis Ford Coppola another famous film-maker and the creator of the iconic movie series "The Godfather".
Now Harrison Ford was also up for the Indiana Jones role, these castings would later turn him into one of the most popular and famous actors in the industry, with his characters in Lucas's movies proving to be big time career makers for him, unlike many of the other Star Wars actors such as Mark Hamill who played Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher who played Princess Leia and Billy Dee Williams who played Lando Calrissian whose careers remain farly low key.
But it was more than just luck as Harrison fit his roles as both Han Solo and the cowboy fashioned archeologist hero Indiana Jones erfectly.
Indiana had a charm that was quite evident from the fact that the female students in his archeology class sessions used to take more notice of him than his lectures!
And so with high spirits, his adventure gear, trademark hat and wielding his whip Indiana goes on a quest to find the "Ark of the Covenant" before the Nazis can get their hands on it...
