Jakks Pacific Grab Yet Another Wrestling License

Well, I missed this bit of news last month and it seems I'm not the only one, but...

Jakks Pacific's Marketing Director of Boys Entertainment Michael Wilde has confirmed that the company has signed a deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The deal will allow Jakks to use the NJPW name, logo, and championships in their forthcoming Legends of Wrestling action figure set.

The deal opens the door for the company to do New Japan wrestling action figures, but the company would have to sign the wrestlers on an individual basis.

The first figure in the legends line under the New Japan deal will be the NJPW era Hulk Hogan action figure.

This adds to Jakks also deals with TNA and the NWA.

It seems Jakks are taking their wrestling figures seriously and after 10 years working with the WWF / WWE they certainly have the experience and backlog of molds etc to do them justice.

Add to this their recent deal with Round 5 and the UFC Jakk's have pretty much tied up the wrestling market.

The potential to see New Japan figures, like the IWGP title, is excellent news for collectors and with Jakks specifically mentioning logos and titles in the press release it seems likely they have the intention of making them.

Although the Great Muta doesn't work for NJPW anymore it's likely that Jakks will pursue him as they could easily make many of his NJPW versions. Plus with guys like Jushin Liger, Masahiro Chono and Antonio Inoki, the sky is the limit.

If Jakks have secured the worldwide rights for these figures they could easily sell them in Japan as well as the Japanese wrestling market is still a big place.

This would also mean that many of those Japanese wrestling stars could trickle into the states as well.

Hopefully Jakks are planning plenty of NJPW, NWA and TNA guys for fans to enjoy.
