Mammon is a major character in the spawn comic book and is the main antagonist to Al Simmons and the replacement for Malebolgia who was the king of hell before Spawn dispatched him.

The comic depicts him as a sophisticated, handsome gentleman who is constantly making deals with humans to take their souls and is very successful in achieving. Most of his efforts are directed at making it impossible for Spawn to accomplish his missions.

The underlying intent is that Mammon can seize the throne of creation hence remaking the universe in his own way. Apart from his current actions in the comic, his past is mysterious. However, it is known that he was one of the soldiers who were loyal to God but refused to take part in the great battle. For this most of the others were banished from heaven and bound to the Tiend. Mammon on the other hand was cast to hell.

Another theory is that he was transformed into a demon after being assaulted by Spawn but most of his history is shrouded in mystery. It's known that he was a high ranking lord of Hell but it's not known which sphere was under his control or if any. The only explanation is that when Malebolgia was the King of Hell he controlled the eighth sphere whose powers at that time were less than those of Mammon.

Despite his powers, he still does not posses the powers to grant certain things. This is reserved for Satan only. This means that in the structure of leadership, Mammon comes somewhere between Satan and Maleboglia. This can also be verified by Thamuz who calls them lord and master in reference to Mammon and Satan respectively. Being so powerful, Mammon has succeeded in making it very hard for Spawn to accomplish anything.

Among other things he is suspected for the release of Urizen which resulted in Spawn killing Malebolgia. He also sent the Violator to the earth taking over the body of Jason Wayne, Simmon's boss. This helped in breaking down Spawn mentally and physically. He also took the soul of Thea, a friend of Nyx'S, in order to gain Nyx's powers. This assisted in Nyx's betrayal of Spawn.

Using the powers he got from Nyx, he was able to destroy Spawn's memories of Wanda. He does not posses many elaborate powers like many of the other characters in the comic however; he has the power of shape shifting. Apart from this he uses his cunning abilities to convince other characters in the comic to pursue his goals. When they are on the same side, he is depicted as extremely knowledgeable and Spawn can only use his knowledge to his advantage. The true nature of their relationship also remains ambiguous with Mammon keeping a low profile while dealing with Spawn.

In general he can be described as a character with many faces, but who prefers to be recognized as an intelligent, well mannered man. You are required to hop through various parts of a level getting to various check points breaking switches to open or close doors. The jumps can be a bit frustrating since the controls are not very responsive.
