To hear his name, you may think that Andre Iguodala is the latest Euro-born player to take the NBA by storm. But this 6-6 shooting guard is American made. Iguodala was selected as the 9th overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2004 draft, and since then he's been a force to be reckoned with on the east coast. And even though the 76ers haven't had much luck on the winning end of things lately, Andre remains a shining part of an overly dull roster. Iguodala entered last year's season amidst controversy. He wasn't busted for drugs or drunk driving; he didn't record a rap album or shoot himself in the leg; he didn't do anything that most professional athletes are noted for when the word "controversy" is involved. Instead, Andre turned down money. He was offered a contract extension of $57-million and turned it down cold. But after getting off to a slow start during the season and eventually finding that his team had enough heart to rally, Andre would agree with a six-year deal worth a reported $80-million. As the 2009 season draws to a close, the 76ers are numerically in the playoff hunt. Andre suffered a few minor injuries during the regular season, but they didn't keep him out of any games. Andre was the proverbial ironman of the NBA. Iguodala began playing up to an All-Star level around mid-season, but, of course, with the Cavs, Celtics and Magic to deal with, one after the other in the Eastern Conference, the depleted roster of Philadelphia doesn't offer much leverage against the trifecta of powerhouse basketball. Nevertheless, Andre had one of his best seasons as a pro. Even though Andre failed to participate in All-Star weekend, he was still considered the best player on an on-again-off-again Philadelphia team. With any luck, the 76ers will be able to make some offseason moves and bring Iguodala the help he needs. The 25-year-old is a great passer, an offensive threat, and other than LeBron James, is probably the Conference's best defensive shooting guard. 2009 Season Stats

Out of high school, Jermaine O'Neal was considered by some to be an all-around better player than Kobe Bryant. But O'Neal would experience a tough run of luck with an underachieving Portland Trail Blazers team, who selected him with the 17th pick in the first round. Although he was surrounded by talent, O'Neal never shined through as the essential piece of the puzzle and was traded to an Indiana Pacers squad - with an aging Reggie Miller to boot - where O'Neal's flower would fully bloom. After Miller retired and the Pacers started to go south, so did O'Neal's numbers. In the summer of 2008, after many injuries had taken their toll and a $44-million left on his contract, O'Neal was traded to the Toronto Raptors. Jermaine immediately made an impact for the Raptors at the start of the 08-09 season. He was the perfect compliment to Olympic Gold Medalist and All-Star Chris Bosh. However, he was only performing on the defensive end of the ball. The Raptors needed offensive output. O'Neal failed to find his offensive rhythm with the Raptors young and fast-paced squad. And by the time the All-Star break arrived, O'Neal would once again be bitten by the injury bug. His spot was eventually taken by Bargnani, an equally impressive big talent, and with the Raptors horrible season getting worse, management decided that they needed to free up some salary cap room. O'Neal was then traded to the Miami Heat on February 13th for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. O'Neal only averaged 13.5 points per game with the Raptors. Jermaine didn't let the trade affect his psyche at all. In his first game against the Raptors as a member of the Heat, he showed his former team what they passed up on, as he dominated the boards and on defense en route to a Miami win. With a now healthy O'Neal, the Heat are sitting among the top of the Eastern Conference playoff lineup. 2009 Season Stats

Coming out of high school, the basketball world was sure that Kevin Durant was ready for the NBA. And though he may have been, David Stern, the NBA's commissioner, implemented a new rule that mandated at least one-year of college participation. So instead of a huge deal right away, Durant went to Texas where he was a standout star for the Longhorns. The now defunct Seattle SuperSonics (now the Oklahoma City Thunder) drafted Durant with the 2nd overall pick in the 2007 draft. Durant immediate proved his worth by winning the NBA's Rookie of the Year award. Durant was considered the best player in the league to not be named to the All-Star roster. A fan-voted event, Durant and his middling Thunder simply weren't a fan favorite. However, Kevin still participated in two events: The Sophomore/Rookie Challenge - now called the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam - and the first ever NBA H-O-R-S-E competition. Durant won the game of Horse and led his sophomore team to a victory over the rookies. In Durant's very short career, he has been honored with many awards. But none seemed to mean as much as the nickname given to him by His Airness, Mr. Michael Jordan, at the 2009 All-Star event: Jordan knighted Durant, so to speak, with the name "Flight 35," in honor of his jersey number. No matter where he's played, Durant has lived up to the hype. And this season was no exception. During February alone, Kevin averaged 30.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game, while simultaneously shooting a staggering 51% from the field. In the "shooter" rankings, which are much like an NFL quarterback rating, Durant earned a 193 -- 180 and beyond is considered phenomenal. Although the Thunder isn't making any noise in the playoff hunt this season, Durant is still considered one of the best young players in the league. With an aging Kobe Bryant and LeBron James playing in the East, the West belongs to Durant in the future… if he's ready to answer the call that is. 2009 Season Stats

The Man Child, The Freak, King James, The One: These are just a few of the nicknames giving to the phenomenal Hall of Fame shoo-in LeBron James. The 6-foot 8-inch small forward from Akron Ohio was richer than 99% of the population before ever leaving high school. After being drafted 1st overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers out of St. Vincent-St. Mary, James made an immediate impact on everyone from the Johnny-come-lately fan to the NBA's best and brightest with his uncanny mix of size, speed, shooting ability, and dunking talent. He's considered the best dunker in the game and the all-around best player. After a disappointing loss to the Boston Celtics in game 7 of the Eastern Finals in the 2007-08 season, James' Cavs made some key moves to surround him with better talent. The 08-09 season started off huge, as James, answering Kobe Bryant's 61-point outing, nearly scored the league's first 50-point triple double since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975 - James scored 52-point, earned 11 assists, and ripped down 9 rebounds. This was to be a precursor to the rest of the season. James went on a hot streak and scored a host of triple doubles after the All-Star break. Maybe experts speculated that James would be too tired, both mentally and physically, after his stint in the 2008 Beijing Olympics - where USA won the gold - but despite the predictions, James is having an MVP-caliber season. With 11 games to go in the regular season, James and the Cavs were sitting pretty with a record of 58-13, which was not only the best in the league, but a Cavaliers franchise record for victories in a season. James and company currently hold the top seed in the East and have the best record in the NBA. The same experts who claimed James would be too tired to perform are now speculating that James will win his first NBA Championship with little competition. 2009 Season Stats

Sweet Jesus Shuttlesworth! For fans of Spike Lee films, Ray Allen's performance as the nation's best high school basketball prospect in He Got Game was one for the ages. Of course, the best shooter in NBA history - including Larry Bird - should have no trouble playing a phenomenal basketball star. After Allen was drafted out of Connecticut in 1996 by the Minnesota Timberwolves, the fans thought they were on the fast track to a championship. However, the team quickly dealt Allen to the Milwaukee Bucks, and after a 7-year stint there and a 4-year run with a horrific Seattle SuperSonics team, Allen was picked up with the Boston Celtics. Together with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and the Celtics won the NBA Championship after holding the league's best record. For the trio, the championship marked the first in each of their careers. During the regular season, Allen played brilliantly, only to have his performance suffer in the playoffs. But during the Finals against the Lakers, Allen found his rhythm and he's been shooting the lights out ever since. The 2008-09 season started out like the last season ended: The Celtics were crushing opponents and Allen's stroke was pure magic. The team quickly jumped out to the leagues best record after 20 games. Allen has managed to stay healthy this year and his numbers, though not career bests, are frightening to every opponent who attempts to guard this pure shooter. While the Celtics are gearing up to enter the NBA Playoffs as the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference, Ray Allen is celebrating some milestones of his own. Due to 193 three pointers made this season, Allen holds the record for most threes made by an active player. He also broke Larry Bird's previous record of 71 consecutive free throws by hitting 72 before badly bricking his 73. Allen was also named to his 9th All-Star game this season. No matter how the Celtics do in the playoffs, the 33-year-old Allen has cemented his legacy as the game's best shooter. 2009 Season Stats

Once known as only Vince Carter's cousin and a sixth man whose unheralded gamesmanship would never lead to a complete career, Tracy McGrady has proved - true to his Rockets' slogan's legend - you should never underestimate the heart of the champion. McGrady started out his career playing alongside his cousin in Toronto in 1997 and made the jump to the Orlando Magic in 2000. During his four seasons with the Magic, McGrady become of the game's biggest stars, and when he ended up in Houston with the red hot Rockets, many thought multiple championships awaited the superstar. Unfortunately, Tracy's career has been injury-plagued, and the 2008-09 season has been no exception. McGrady announced on February 18th of this year that he would have surgery on a knee that's been bothering him for seasons. Surgery, of course, is often an athlete's last option. Tracy attempted to play through the pain of the bum knee, but ultimately missed a two-week stretch early in the season as the Rockets jockeyed for position with the tough Western Conference, and ultimately missed 18 games in total before the All-Star break. In an unusual manner, McGrady posted the decision to have surgery on his website instead of informing the team. He immediately fell under heavy criticism from both his teammates and head coach Rick Adelman, who didn't hear about Tracy's decision until reading it in a newspaper. The 6-foot 8-inch shooting guard is only 29-years-old, so his career is far from over, granted that his knee injury and plaguing back issues don't continue. McGrady stands to earn over $20-million for this season alone. After his microfracture recovery, Tracy seems to be doing well. He's off the crutches and his return to the team in the playoffs looks hopeful. How effective he'll be is another story entirely. 2009 Season Stats

Some of the National Basketball League's most skilled players have the "journeyman" tag attached to their score card. In his 7th season out of Michigan State, Zach Randolph is the quintessential road-traveled player, suiting up for the Portland Trailblazers and the New York Knicks before landing in Los Angeles with the Clippers. And while Randolph's name has never left the lips on the same breath as James and Bryant, he's still an invaluable member to a suddenly competitive Clippers franchise. As the 2008-2009 regular season started, the New York Knicks were an absolute mess. With their prima donna "Starbury" and a general manager who proved to be the worst in not only team history, but that of the entire league, the in-shambles Knickerbockers were forced to make some team moves, if only for the season. In order to pick up some much-needing shooting and an inside paint presence, the Knicks traded away the 6-8 power forward and Mardy Collins in exchange for Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley. During his years with Portland, Randolph wasn't exactly known to be an ill-tempered player. But once his stint with the Knicks was through, the young man was embittered and looking to lash out. Unfortunately, his frustration unloaded on Louis Amundson's jaw in a game against the Phoenix Suns on February 17, and he was subsequently ejected and suspended for his actions. Adding insult to his reputation's injury, Randolph was also arrested on drunk driving charges and suspended for two more games by the league - which could be the least of his worries. Police witnessed his white Rolls-Royce swaying on the interstate. The fact that Randolph seemed unremorseful didn't help his chances. While actually on the hardwood, Randolph had one of the better seasons of his career. And even though the Clippers aren't punching their "rendezvous with destiny" ticket on the NBA Championship train, his 21 point per game average is still one of the best in the West. His sheer size and strength, coupled with the basketball intangibles that you simply can't teach, make him a dual threat: A force around the basket, and a mid-range shooter with touch. 2009 Season Stats
