   Derek Jeter Born June 26, 1974, in Pequannock Township, New Jersey, Derek Jeter is the pride of the New York Yankees. As a long time fan of the Yankees, Jeter seemed destined to don the pinstripes and return this historic team to glory. Though every child dreams of greatness, Derek Jeter had something special. Jeter was a star player no matter where he took the field. At Kalamazoo Central High School, Jeter batted an impressive .557 in his sophomore year, and went on to bat .508 in his junior year. After high school, Jeter received a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Michigan. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity never saw fruition; the New York Yankees drafted Jeter with the 6th overall pick in the 1992 amateur draft. Jeter's decision was final, and he promptly began play in the minor leagues. In 1994, Jeter was honored with the Minor League Player of the year Award by Baseball America, USA Today, Topps, and The Sporting News. Jeter made his debut with the Yankees on May 29, 1995. This baseball tradition of letting players get their feet wet before inevitably sending them back to flourish amongst lesser talent is one that has broken many players. Derek Jeter provides the Yankees with a legitimate opportunity to repeat as World Series champs every year he takes the field. Returning his admiration for the team, Jeter has never even entertained the thought of free agency. Figure measures 5 1/2 inches at top of cap. Articulated at neck, elbows, left wrist, waist and ankles. Includes 6 1/2-inch wide by 2 1/2-inch deep custom base.
