Todd McFarlane is giving his legion of Canadian fans a real treat with the NHL Series 18 line-up. Being a serious puckhead himself he knows how to deliver what the fans want.
There's no denying the passion and dedication Canadians have for the game of hockey and Todd McFarlane has created the NHL 18 lineup to specifically appeal to Canadian collectors.
It was originally constructed with Edmonton's Sheldon Souray and Ottawa's Ray Emery, alongside native Canadians Joe Sakic and Jordan Staal.
But Todd recently decided to expand the NHL lineups back to six players, and gives a salute to Quebec in this lineup; offering Mats Sundin and Guy Lafleur in their Nordiques uniforms. Take a look at the pictures, eh?

- SHELDON SOURAY
Sheldon Souray (born 13th July in Elk Point, Alberta) is one of a very few aboriginal players in the NHL. He is an impressive defenseman, with an equally impressive personal life.
He dated model and actress Kylie Bax before meeting and marrying actress Angelica Bridges of Baywatch fame with whom he has two daughters.
Not content with just being the successful Hockey player he has become, he also co-owns the pizzeria restaurant 'Rivieres des Prairies' along with New Jersey Devils goal keeper Martin Brodeur.
Sheldon's rise to fame began with playing with the Fort Saskatchewan Traders in the AJHL before he was accepted into the dazzling world of NHL success.
Internationally, Souray played for Canada at the 2005 World Championships which took place that year in Austria.
In April 2007 Souray was back on form, and broke the NHL single-season record for most power play goals (he scored 19) scored by a defenseman.
This performance added to his impressive defensive play and led to him being ranked second of all Canadian players in terms of both points and goals amassed.
It is no surprise then that the Edmonton Oilers snapped him up to play for them, the contract he signed was worth $27,000,000 over a five year period. This is one player to watch, despite a few bumps along the road, he is hotly tipped for the future.

- RAY EMERY
Emery’s NHL career began in 2005 and won record numbers of games, getting off to an explosive start.
During the 2006 Winter Olympics he took the place of Dominik Hasek as the starting goalie.
In the next few seasons he earned himself the nickname ‘Sugar Ray’ for his constant fighting, earning him many penalties and a fierce reputation.
In 2006, Emery became famous internationally for the controversy raised over his mask.
A huge boxing fan, Emery had the face of Mike Tyson painted onto it, unfortunately reminding the public of Tyson’s notorious rape convictions.
He only wore the mask for one game (a 5-0 loss against the Bruins). His latest mask features the face of Muhammed Ali.

- JOE SAKIC 3
Some guys are just tougher than others - that's life. But almost a decade removed from his 1000th point scored, Colorado Avalanche centre Joe Sakic is defying logic and still going strong.
To put in perspective just how incredible his accomplishments are all one has to do is glance at his 80-point effort on the ice last year for the Avalanche - his 19th NHL season.
This gives you a sense of just how determined the 39-year-old Sakic is. And though he's taking a back seat to Colorado's number-one centre, Paul Stastny, Sakic is still one of the game's purest players.
It's easy to liken Joe Sakic to the NFL's Brett Favre. Sakic entered the 06-07 season with a consecutive game streak over 200. He was signed to a one-year contract, citing that at his age it's better to play one year at a time.
But the Avalanche was glad to have Sakic back, and the General Manager exclaimed that Joe is the heart of the Colorado organization and his leadership and value to the team is unquestioned. Joe's role was declining on the ice, but he still had his share of shining and defining moments.
In an overtime game against the Calgary Flames, Sakic scored a goal and assisted teammate Ryan Smyth on a game-winning overtime goal that gave Sakic his 1,600th NHL point.
A short time later, Sakic's streak of 232 consecutive games ended due to a hernia injury. In December, Sakic underwent hernia surgery, but he returned after 38 games.
He was reactivated on February 24, and scored an assist that night. On March 22, Sakic recorded his 1000th career assist - becoming only the 11th player in NHL history to reach the milestone.
Along with Sakic's pure grit and unmistakable talent, the Colorado Avalanche finished the 2007-2008 season with a record of 44-31, earning a playoff berth.
In the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Avalanche defeated the Minnesota Wild 4 games to 2, but would lose to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings.
2007 Season Stats
- 13 Goals
- 27 Assists
- 40 PTS
- Foundation Player Award
Figure Stats

- JORDAN STAAL
Staal’s career with the Pittsburgh Penguins began when he signed a contract with them in 2006.
He then played in the 2006-2007 NHL season, scoring early on the season and remaining consistent throughout.
The best was yet to come however, and Staal impressed critics and fans alike by becoming the youngest player in league history to score TWO shorthanded goals in one game.
He was also the youngest player to score on a penalty shot in an NHL match. This set the bar for Jordan Staal and it was generally accepted that more great things would be seen from this young player.
He certainly hasn’t let down his fans… in early 2007 he scored his first hat trick, and set another record – he was now the youngest player to score a hat trick in the NHL.
He was just 18 and a half at the time, a fantastic achievement for a player of this age and just beating the previous record holder.
But he didn’t stop there.
He tied the NHL rookie record by scoring his league-leading sixth shorthanded goal.
The Elias Sports Bureau confirms that Jordan Staal is the only player ever in NHL history to have scored more than one shorthanded goal before he reached the grand old age of 19 years!

- MATS SUNDIN 2 (Nordiques)
Mats Johan Sundin was born 13th February, 1971 in Bromma, Sweden. He is the NHL's all time top scorer of over-time goals, (he has notched up 15), and he is the holder of the Toronto Maple Leafs record for having scored both the highest number of goals and the most points.
Sundin had been playing for Nacka HK in the Swedish tier two Hockey Allsvenskan league and has the impressive distinction of being the first player born in Europe to be drafted into the NHL.
His performance in Sweden, his home country, impressed the Quebec Nordiques and they were moved to draft him first overall in the 1989 NHL entry draft.
He made his debut with the Quebec team in the 1990-1991 seasons, and wound up second on the team. Experts tipped him as one of the league's best young hockey players.
In 1994 Sundin was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and in the same year he kept his Swedish links by playing for his Swedish club Djurgardens IF.
In 1997 he captained the Maple Leafs, the first European player to do so. Unfortunately another injury blighted his career in November 2006 when he damaged his elbow. Sundin was resigned to the Leafs in summer 2007 and scored his 400th goal on November 27th of that year, the first Leaf player to reach that pinnacle.
Despite the rumours to the contrary, Sundin claims he will always play as a Maple Leaf and wants to finish his career as one.

- GUY LAFLEUR (Nordiques)
Born September 20, 1951, in Thurso, Quebec, Guy Damien Lafleur is a former professional hockey player who is widely considered to be among the best Right Wingers to ever play the game.
As a naturally gifted and overwhelmingly popular player, Lafleur captivated audiences with his ability to dominate on the ice.
During his teenage years, Lafleur gained considerable notoriety for his stellar play as a member of the Quebec Remparts.
Lafleur cited Bobby Orr as one of his influences. In one of the most lopsided deals in NHL (National Hockey League) history, Guy Lafleur was able to be drafted with the #1 pick by the Montreal Canadiens.
During the Stanley Cup finals in 1978, Boston Bruins head coach Don Cherry told his players to put their sticks up whenever Lafleur skated by. By the end of the series, Lafleur's head was covered in bandages from the repeated slashing attacks.
With the help of Lafleur, the Montreal Canadiens became a legitimate dynasty in the NHL. The team won the Stanley Cup in 72-73, 75-76, 76-77, 77-78, and 78-79 with Lafleur. During the 80s on the ice, Lafleur's performance started to diminish. During the 84-85 season, Lafleur decided to retire after only scoring two goals in nineteen games.
Shortly after retiring, Lafleur was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Lafleur was still considered one of hockey's best players, even with diminished playing time.
