The Spawn Trading Figures Launched
In April 2006 McFarlane Toys released the first series of their Spawn Trading figures, hoping to following the success of the Japanese market where capsule or trading figures are big business. These 3-inch representations of some of the most popular SPAWN action figures were available in three separate paint schemes: original, metallic and variant with a total of 36 separate figures to collect and trade!
![]() The spawn trading figures were packed in pseudo blind boxes which meant that the box is marked on the outside indicating which figure is inside but not the version of the figure you were buying. The most common figures were the solid color ones and the variants or chase figures were the gold versions. However a lot of detail was left out from the original versions and the smaller figures. The paint jobs tended to be spotty due to the small size of the figures, hence the occurrence of over splash also.
This made it hard for the spawn toys to qualify perfectly as trading figures which generally cost less than $5, even at todays prices, and about $10 for a set of 5. As a result only two series of the Spawn Trading figures were released and they have since become somewhat of a rarity to find, particularly the metallic chase figures!

Each of these figures had a solid base which kept them upright but there was no. These Spawn Trading figures were also a bit expensive, especially compared to the standard sized figures, with each figure going for at least $5 and the variants, selling at around $20.
