HELPING YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR FIGURE(S)!
Can The Transformers Save Mankind?
So what are the Transformers and what are they capable of? The Transformers are a fictional breed of highly intelligent alien robots from the planet called Cybertron which was popularized by the Hasbro Toy Company in the 1980's, just right after their successful G.I. Joe toy products. Although an entirely different concept from the more mainstream action hero figures, Hasbro's Transformer toy line was such a big hit and became part of a culture from that era until well into the early 1990's.
These robotic characters have the ability to transform their bodies into more common forms such as automobiles, animals, gadgets or anything else that they can "copy". I remember way back having a great time trying to figure out which part of the toy bends into what direction in order to rearrange and reveal the true figure of the robot at hand. But then again... These Transformers are divided into two warring sides of good and evil namely the Autobots, led by the great Optimus Prime, and the Megatron-led Decepticons who aim for nothing more than to turn everything else into their kind. These robots are the most highly intelligent, powerful, technologically advanced and sophisticated machines that humankind has ever encountered. Able to adapt to any environment, these robots can easily blend in and essentially hide in plain sight. Quite ironic but true, thus you'll never know that the car you are driving is actually an Autobot or a Decepticon until it's too late, can you? The Transformers actually began in the 1970s from two distinct Japanese toy lines called "Microman" and "Diaclone". The Microman line consisted of humanoid-type figures while the Diaclones are (you guessed it) robots from which the Transformers were patterned from. Hasbro brought the rights to these toy lines and hired Jim Shooter and Dennis O'Neil to create an original story for the comics and the Transformers were born. Bob Budiansky then later created most of the Transformer characters, names and attributes. The Transformers: Generation One, the original Transformers story, made its run from 1984-1992 and included both the Marvel comics and a TV series produced by Sunbow Productions which later made Japanese and U.K. spin-offs. An animated film with the same title was later released in August 1986 and was based on the storyline of the TV series. The Transformers: Beast Wars then followed on TV from 1996-2001 and eventually became an entirely different mini-universe. Its storyline focused on a small group of Maximals and Predacons which are the akin to the Autobots and Decepticons, respectively. In this TV cartoon series, the robots take on the forms of prehistoric dinosaurs and mammals. There also have been other versions of the Transformers story in both comics and cartoon series. But the best story so far is the live-action film version that was released in 2007. The film's story was written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, directed by Michael Bay, and the movie was simply titled "Transformers". The main focus of the film centers on the Allspark, a large cube of energy that can create life from any mechanical object. It is also the creator of the Transformers and is described as the most powerful source of energy in the universe. Think of your mobile phone being zapped by this cube and suddenly turning it into a freakish miniature robot and, just like in the movie, you'll get the picture. Just don't say "How cute!"
The Transformers eventually located the All-Spark on Earth and a robotic war broke loose between the Autobots, who are trying to protect humankind and the cube, and the Decepticons who simply want the All Spark for total destruction. Aside from the leaders Optimus Prime and Megatron, other Transformer characters were also integrated into the movie. The Autobots lineup were made up of Bumblebee, Jazz, Ironhide and Ratchet while the Decepticons consisted of Frenzy (a.k.a. Soundwave), Barricade, Bonecrusher, Devastator (a.k.a. Brawl), Blackout, Scorponok and Starscream. The much awaited sequel to this fantastic film (which raked in over $708 million in the worldwide box office by the way), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2009.
