What Are The Rarest WCW Figures? The first action figures produced for the now defunct World Championship Wrestling Promotion were from a company called Galoob and were released in 1990. These figures were released about the same time as Hasbro's WWF line of figures. Each of the figures were made from a solid plastic with no articulation, similar to the LJN line of figures, and came with a gold belt with "WCW" printed on it.
Galoob WCW FiguresTwo sets of these WCW action figure were produced by Galoob between 1990 and 1991. The first set consisted of 12 figures that were only released in the USA, however all but two, Tom Zenk and Butch Reed, were released later in the UK with different coloured outfits along with a second UK Exclusive set. As a result this second set, and the exclusives, have become much more difficult to find and are therefore much more collectable and valuable. The original US WCW figures generally sell from approx $2 (loose) to about $20 MOC (Mint On Card) whereas a UK WCW figure will fetch prices ranging from $5 (loose) to $200 MOC!

Original San Francisco Toy Makers WCW FiguresIn 1994 a series of 9 standard rubber WCW Action Figures were released by the OSFTM, these WCW Figures were again similar to the LJN figures. The initial cases however didn't include a Jimmy Hart or Kevin Sullivan WCW figure, but they were added in the second wave. Also a Ric Flair WCW figure was originally released with blue trunks, blue knee pads and black boots but this was quickly changed to dark purple trunks and kneepads and light purple boots. It seems that the "blue" variant WCW action figures, which have become very scarce, were only available through K-Mart at the time. Another small variant, or error that was corrected, was that the Nasty Boys WCW figures didn't have their names tattooed on their arms in the first wave but when the second wave was shipped they came with the tattoos. The card backs on the second wave of WCW figures also featured a slight printing change. Have you seen a "Black Skinned" Jimmy Hart WCW Figure? It has been rumoured that there were approx 100 of the "black skinned" Jimmy Hart figures released, but this is unsubstantiated and seems unlikely to be true, although there were a few of these available, exact numbers have never been confirmed.

Toybiz WCW Figures (1999 - 2001)Originally Toy Biz held the license to produce toys based on the DC characters but later acquired the exclusive license to produce Marvel toys. Toy Biz later expanded into producing wrestling figures featuring characters from the WCW and later the TNA. When Marvel went bankrupt Toy Biz decided to jump in and help and the two companies merged with Toy Biz handling the action figure lines for Marvel Entertainment. With the introduction of Toy Biz into Marvel Entertainment the quality of the figures as well as the sculpting improved dramatically. The Toy Biz figures were also a huge improvement on the previous SFOTM line of WCW Figures. The figures produced by Toy Biz generally had a good likeness of the wrestlers they were supposed to be and featured excellent articulation. However, they fell into the same trap of other manufacturers by producing the same wrestlers over and over again instead of a mix of various wrestlers.
